AFCAT Recruitment 02/2020 Online Application – Indian Airforce, IAF has invited applications for the posts of AFCAT Group A Gazetted Officers in Flying and Ground duty, technical and non-technical starting today that is June 15, 2020, on the official website. The candidates who wish to apply can visit for the application form and follow the steps shared below to fill the application. Candidates with the qualification of B.E/B.Tech/Any Degree can apply for this exam. Eligible candidates can apply for this post online before 14 July 2020. About AFCAT Recruitment

AFCAT is  Air Force Common Admission Test conducted by Indian Force in National level. AFCAT will be conducted twice in the year for the recruitment of Flying Branch, Technical Branch, and ground Duty Staff under Indian Air Force. After the written test (AFCAT) result candidates are shortlisted based on the fixed cutoff for the further interview or personality test. The personality test will be conducted for 6 days with two stages of intelligence test, Psychological test, Group tasks, and Personal Interview. For all the three branches in the Air Force, both men and women can apply. While for Women Short Service Commission will be offered, for men both Short Service Commission and Permanent service will be offered. An individual can have a maximum of 16 attempts (2 attempts per year) while a total of 8 attempts for AFCAT written and 8 attempts through fast track selection entry.

AFCAT Application Fee 2020

Candidates applying for the AFCAT entry will have to pay an application fee while submitting the application form. Candidates applying for the NCC and Meteorology entry need not pay any application fee. The application fee should only be paid through an online mode. Payment through cash or demand draft (DD) will not be entertained. Candidates should keep the transaction details for future records.

Indian Airforce – AFCAT Recruitment 2020: Eligibility and other details 

The candidates must be aged between 20-24 years to apply for the posts, that is they must be born not before July 1997 and not after July 1, 2001, to apply for the exam.  For ground duty staff the age limit os from 20- 26 years.

Also, AFCAT asks for candidates to be unmarried if they are below 25 years of age. The candidates must have secured more than 50% marks in 10+2 in physics and mathematics to apply for the exam.

  • The Candidate must be a Citizen of India. 

Marital Status

  • The candidates must be unmarried at the time of commencement of course.
  • Widows/Widowers are not eligible to apply.
  • A candidate who marries subsequent to the date of his application even after successfully clearing the SSB and medical will also not be eligible for training.

Age Limit

For Flying Branch through AFCAT and NCC Special Entry

  • Maximum Age – 24 years.
  • Minimum Age – 20 years.
  • The candidates should be of this age as on 1st July 2021.

For Ground Duty (Technical & Non-Technical) Branch:

  • Maximum Age – 26 years.

Educational Qualification

For Flying Branch:
  • Minimum of 60% marks each in Maths & Physics at 10+2 level.
  • Graduates (Three Year Course) in any discipline from a recognised University who have attained minimum 60% marks or equivalent OR
  • BE/B Tech (Four Year Course) from a recognised university with minimum 60% marks or equivalent.
  • Cleared Section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institute Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognised University with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.

Aeronautical Engineering (Electronics)/(Mechanical):

  • Final Year/semester students are also eligible to apply, provided they do not have any present backlogs at the time of AFSB Testing and produce Degree certificate issued by the University as per the date stipulated in the advertisement.
  • NCC Air Wing Senior Division ’C’ certificate and validity of the certificate would be two years before the date of advertisement.

Note: Candidates who are studying in the final year/semester Degree course and are yet to pass the final year degree examination can also apply provided candidate should not have any present backlog and should have secured a minimum of 60% marks upto the last semester/year for which results have been declared upto the time of submission of application.

AFCAT 2020 Physical Fitness Test:

  • Candidates should aim to achieve an ability to run 01 miles (1.6 km) in 10 mins, do 10 pushups and 03 chin-ups.
  • Prospective candidates are also advised to keep themselves in good physical condition to adapt to physical training at AFA which encompasses running, swimming, rope climbing and other forms of physical training/ conditioning in which they would undergo mandatory tests during training.

AFCAT Recruitment 2020 Selection Process:

AFCAT Exam Pattern 2020

The written examination for the AFCAT will consist of two different sections. The first section will consist of subjects like General Awareness, Verbal Ability in English, Numerical Ability, and Reasoning which will be of 100 marks in total. Section two will consist of questions related to the graduation stream, namely; Mechanical, Computer Science and Electrical & Electronics. The AFCAT Exam Pattern is as follows.

  • Section II will be of 150 marks and 50 questions in total.
  • The section I exam will be of a duration of 2 hours and section II will be of 45 minutes.
  • +1 mark will be awarded for every correct answer.
  • There will be a negative marking of -1 for every wrong answer.

AFCAT Salary – Payscale

The following AFCAT salary pay would be applicable on the grant of Commission to Flying Officers:-

Pay in Pay Band (Common to all Branches) – Rs 56,100 Per Month (The officer will be placed in Level 10 in the Pay Matrix of VIIth CPC – 56,100-1,10,700).

Military Service Pay:– Rs 15,500 Per Month.

Apart from this, the newly Commissioned Officers in Flying and Technical Branches will also get:-

  • Flying Allowance to Flying Branch Officers

  • Technical Allowance to Technical Branch Officers

Promotions in AFCAT

The promotions are applicable on the basis of the timescale for the first three ranks. For the other posts, the promotions are done on the basis of selection which depends upon the frequency with which the job positions get vacant. Promotion after this stage becomes a little abrupt because of the pyramidal promotional scene.

  • Once an individual has served the Flying officers for complete 3 years, they will be promoted to Flight lieutenants. They will have to qualify a department test to be eligible.

  • The Air Force is currently hiring Commissioned Officers as Flying Officers. So, Technical Officers who are actually engineers are provided seniority of 2 years for the purpose of pay and promotion as compared to Officers of the IAF.

  • If a candidate completes 6 years of service IAF, they will be granted the rank of Squadron Leader.

  • To climb up in the hierarchy, all Officers are mandatory to clear the promotion exam ‘C’ (Departmental).
